Cooking tips

Oven Tips : Check the seal on your oven door for wear. Even a small tear or gap can allow heat to wander away from your meal. A clean seal also provides better heat retention.

Try Eating Raw Food : You need a balance of three basic food groups as most of your diet:
  • sweet fruits (apples, oranges, berries, melons, etc.)
  • green leaves (dark lettuce, kale, collards, spinach, etc.)
  • raw plant fats (avocados, olives & their oil, coconuts & their oil, nuts & seeds, durian)
  • Eat lots of sweet fruit, lots of green leaves, and some fat (as dressing, pâté, hummus, etc.). Add vegetables as desired, and sprouted grains and legumes occasionally. Try fruit for breakfast and snacks; greens, veggies and fat for lunch and dinner.

Oven Tips : Fan-forced ovens cost 35% less to run than a conventional electric oven.

Ingredients And Procedures
Ingredients
3ouncespackage lime jello
1cupwater, hot
1cupcoconut, shredded, sweetened
1/2poundbutter, softened
2/3cupbrown sugar, firmly packed
1/4cupsugar
2eacheggs
2tablespoonsmilk
2teaspoonsvanilla
1 3/4cupflour
1teaspoonbaking soda
1/2teaspoonsalt
2 1/2cupold fashioned oats
1cupwalnuts, chopped
1cupcurrants

Directions:

Tools required: two small bowls, large mixing bowl, slotted spoon, paper towels, large spoon, cookie sheet, spatula, wire cooling rack

With an adult's help, preheat oven to 375F.

Mix jello and hot water in a small bowl. Stir until jello is dissolved. Add the shredded coconut, stir and set the bowl aside.

Beat the butter and sugars until creamy. Add the eggs, milk and vanilla and beat again. Set aside.

Combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Add this to the big bowl and stir well. Stir in oats, nuts and currants and mix.

With a slotted spoon, separate the shredded coconut from the gelatin and set the coconut on a few paper towels to drain. Place another 2 paper towels on top of the coconut and press, squeezing out any liquid. The leftover jello is not needed.

Mix remaining ingredients.

Spoon out tablespoon sized lumps of dough and place them 1-2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 9-10 minutes until golden brown. Allow lumps (which should now be shaped like steaming patties) to cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute. Then, put on wire rack to cool.
